Configuring
Outlook 2000/XP in MAPI mode (corporate) Exchange 2000
This section is designed to help you setup your desktop
Outlook with Bizintegrators hosted Exchange 2000 service. The
targeted configuration aims to optimize the interaction
between Outlook and Exchange and use the full features
of both products.
Setting up Outlook involves the 3 following steps:
1. Configure the hosts file
2. Add new profile and Exchange service
3. Ensure that Outlook is running in "Corporate or
Workgroup" mode (not needed for Outlook XP)
Hosts files are text files located on your desktop and
contain important settings mapping IP addresses to
hosts names. As such, you will have to specify the adequate
IP
addresses related to Bizintegrators mail servers.
In this step, you will:
Locate the hosts files on your computer
Edit the hosts files content (with Notepad) and configure
Bizintegrators Exchange servers IP addresses
>> Locating the hosts files on your computer
As shown below: open Windows Explorer, click on Search,
Search for files or folders named: "hosts" looking
in C:\windows or the drive where windows is located
on your machine.
Exact location of the hosts file:
Windows XP c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
Windows 2000 c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\
Right-click on hosts file that appears in Search Results
to open a property box and choose the [Open with] option
Select [Notepad ] to edit the Hosts files
While editing your Host files, add the following lines
to the bottom of the existing text:
64.95.16.63 ASP-BIZ-01
Select File, Save
[Note: in some cases, the Hosts files will be named Hosts.sam.
The .sam extension must be removed:
> Open the MS-DOS command prompt
>
Enter the command "copy Hosts.sam hosts" (no
quotes)
> Press enter
Adding New Outlook Profile and Exchange Service
This process describes how to add an Outlook profile
designed as your Exchange profile. This option is recommended
rather
than modifying your existing Outlook profile, which
may create interferences in your messaging service.
However, if your are an experienced user and would like
better to amend an existing account, you may proceed
so and add the Exchange service to an existing Outlook
profile.
Adding New Outlook Profile and Exchange Service (Outlook
XP)
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
In the control panel there will be a Mailbox icon named
Mail, click it
This will bring up the current outlook profile: Click
Show profiles
Click Add
Type in the name of the profile and click OK .
Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next
Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next
For Microsoft Exchange server type ASP-BIZ-01
For User Name: type your user id (for example, jreter
is the User name ). This information is case sensitive
Click Check Name (Important: this step will confirm
whether Exchange Server can retrieve your mailbox)
You'll be prompted by an "Enter Password" box.
For User Name type your user id (e.g. jreter)
For Password type your Password
For Domain Name type Aspnic.com
Click OK
Your name should now be underlined
Click the More Settings button..
Under the Advanced Tab change Logon network security
to None
Click two checkboxes under, Encrypt Information
When using the network
When using dial-up networking
Click OK on the Microsoft Exchange Server window
This will bring back to the Email Accounts window
Click Next & then Finish
To specify which profile will run when starting Outlook,
under When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile,
under Always use this profile: select the newly created
profile. To be prompted for the profile to use, select
Prompt for a profile to be used
Click OK
